How Can You Help Us?

If you can spare around two and half hours on a Friday, once every four weeks, then read on to find out how you can help us…

All Three Rivers Talking Newspaper (3RTN) staff are volunteers. Recording sessions take place on Fridays, in our studio at the Community Centre in Bungay, and typically take around two and a half hours to complete. We operate a four weekly rota, with three of the recordings taking place in the studio and one being recorded remotely (a technique developed in response to the Covid lockdown).  Two of our studio teams record in the afternoon (start time 2pm) and one in the evening (start time 6pm).

We like to think of each of our four teams as a unit and all the studio based positions offer the opportunity to meet and socialise with like-minded people. Below is a brief overview of the various roles at 3RTN:

Team Leader/Editor: Team Leaders are responsible for co-ordinating and communicating with their team members and they also sit on the Committee. They collate and edit articles from the Beccles & Bungay Journal and other local papers/freesheets into a programme format for recording and  also compile the Introduction and Summary of Top Stories.

Reader:  Readers typically work in a team of four and read aloud the items prepared by the Editor, under the guidance of the Recordist.  While it is essential that Readers can be clearly understood by our listeners, we welcome a variety of accents and voices and aim to have a mix of male and female Readers in each team.

Recordist: Working with their regular team of Readers, Recordists mix the live readings to produce a master tape for that recording session.

Administrators:  Administrators check and remove USBs from returned pouches and complete the appropriate paperwork. They also sort and prepare the pouches for sending back out to listeners.  With the help of other team members, they then copy the master recording onto USBs, check outgoing USBs for any faults and pack the USBs into pouches for dispatch to listeners.

Full training is given for all roles and you are very welcome to come in and observe what we do before making a commitment.

If you are interested in taking on any of these roles, please contact Cecilia on  0778 999 4906 or by email on secretary@3rtn.org.uk
